Composed in 1825, this is a concerto for piano and orchestra. It shows strong influence from Weber, including its single-movement structure.
In 4/4 time, Andante. A familiar and graceful melody is slowly sung over arpeggiated accompanying chords. String accompaniment then joins, expanding the texture. Subsequently, the B minor, Allegro con fuoco section presents a contrasting atmosphere. A brilliant and passionate musical phrase is played by the piano solo, set to a playful, light rhythm. Interspersed with rhythmic orchestral phrases, the piece becomes march-like, and a refreshing theme is grandly sung by the piano and orchestra. The Allegro theme reappears, but then returns to B major and a march-like character. Finally, it shifts to B minor, concluding brilliantly with a highly virtuosic display from the piano.
