For approximately 20 years as a conservatory professor, Reinecke did not cease composing even amidst a stable life, continuing to write meticulous and imaginative works befitting a doyen of German academism. The Ländler, as indicated in the title of this work, is a popular triple-meter dance widely cherished primarily in Southern Germany, Switzerland, and Austria; however, he skillfully integrates it with traditional and advanced compositional techniques. The entire work consists of seven parts with various tempos and a finale. The novel sound at the beginning, which even evokes the sonorities of French modernism, and the advanced counterpoint found in the sixth and seventh parts, exhibit a curious harmony.
