Composed in Vienna in 1784. The theme of this set of variations has an "a-b-a" phrase structure. Diverse variations appear one after another, such as the 6th variation, characterized by sustained notes with trills, and the 8th variation, notable for its hand-crossing. Particularly, the beautiful curve drawn by the 9th variation, which is bridged from the preceding variation by a cadenza-like interpolated phrase, and the large-scale final variation, shape this work into a substantial set of variations. At the very end of the entire piece, Mozart develops a technique of recalling the theme, which he had already used in other variations, presenting it in a slightly modified form after its recapitulation.
