From the Composer
This piece was composed between November 1974 and February 1975. My piano pieces are divided into elementary and advanced levels, with no intermediate level. Therefore, I wrote this piece for intermediate players, with a technical level comparable to that required for a sonatina album. It is suitable for both performance and study. The subtitle, "Poem of Blue," has no specific meaning. However, I associated various kinds of blue imagery with this piece: a deep, subdued blue like the bottom of the deep sea; a bright, piercing, vivid blue; and a distant blue like the far-off sky. I had the impression that these colors intermingled, sometimes slowly, sometimes dizzyingly, in each passage of the three movements. This is probably due to the colorful connections of chords, but particularly the musical idea of transparent triads linked colorfully, often seen in the first movement, represents a shared characteristic in my works. While the compositional idiom is moderate, I believe that the composer's individuality invariably emerges regardless of the idiom used.
The piece consists of three movements. The order is fast, fast, slow.
