Composed around 1903, when the composer was approximately 18 years old. It was published in 1905 by Harmonia, a Budapest-based publisher, under the German title Sechs Phantasiestücke (Six Fantasy Pieces). Additionally, in 1920, it was published by Edition Čaklović in Zagreb as Yugoslav Piano Music Vol. 1, under the Croatian title Maštanja (Reveries). In the former edition, the titles of the individual pieces within the collection are also given in German, while in the latter, the titles of the individual pieces are given in French along with their Croatian translations. The work was premiered in Zagreb in 1906 by Olga Schulz-Granitz.
This collection comprises six pieces, each titled to represent various emotional states and atmospheres: 1. Longing, 2. Sadness, 3. Doubt, 4. Lament, 5. Wish, and 6. Fantasy (Delusion). It is a beautiful and romantic collection of character pieces, reminiscent of Schumann's works in both form and content. Dissonant intervals such as sevenths and ninths are frequently employed, and abrupt modulations are common.
