A work from around 1900, when Dohnányi was about 15 years old. It is dedicated to Baroness Elsa Szentkereszty. Together with Barcarolle, Op. 4, Song Without Words, Op. 5, Butterflies, Op. 6, Minuet, Op. 7, and Impromptu, Op. 9 (a), it was published in 1902 as Sechs Klavierstücke (Six Piano Pieces) by Harmonia, a publishing house in Budapest. In these early works, the influence of Romantic composers such as Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words, Grieg's Lyric Pieces, and pieces by Tchaikovsky and Schumann is clearly discernible. Each of these works, with their very simple and naive style, showcases Dohnányi's clear, youthful, and fresh sensibility.
