This three-movement sonata, completed on April 12, 1915, at the age of 29 in her hometown of Našice, was first published in 2002 by the Croatian Musicological Society (Hrvatsko muzikološko društvo) in Zagreb. It is dedicated to Anny von Lange and was premiered on April 19, 1921, in Dresden by Walther Bachmann. Dora left behind many beautiful salon-style miniatures, but she also composed large-scale works such as symphonies and piano concertos. These larger works, in stark contrast to her miniatures, are highly dramatic, powerful, and convey a strong sense of willpower. This piano sonata is also a magnificent work that allows one to feel the powerful pulse of a woman who lived through a politically and culturally turbulent era from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
