A song composed four days before the start of the Showa era (December 21). At the time, rapid urbanization was progressing, and songs and customs rooted in rural areas were becoming out of step with the times. New folk songs (Shin Min'yo) by Ujo Noguchi and others were attempts to create popular songs and regional songs that could adapt to this new era. The composer, Shimizu Fujii, stated that "Senbazuru" (A Thousand Cranes) was created as a song that many women who had started working in factories could easily hum in their daily lives.
