This collection of short pieces was composed in 1912, when the composer was 27 years old. However, No. 1 "Dedication" has been lost, and only three pieces remain: No. 2 "Dragonfly," No. 3 "Butterfly," and No. 4 "Evening Thoughts." It is recorded that the collection was dedicated to the pianist Alice Ripper and premiered by her in Stockholm in 1917. Four additional works were dedicated to Alice Ripper, Dora's long-time friend: Impromptu Op. 32(b), Capriccio Op. 47, Concert Fantasy Op. 48, and Nocturne Op. 50-1. Both "Dragonfly" and "Butterfly" are charming short pieces, rich in Impressionistic colors and sonorities. Furthermore, "Evening Thoughts" is a beautiful and melancholic piece, a mature work fitting to conclude this collection.
