Written in March 1921, at the age of 35, this piano sonata is Dora's last piano work. She married in September of that year, composed her last work, the String Quartet in C major, Op. 58, in the following year, 1922, and passed away in March 1923 at the age of 37. For a long time, it remained in the form of a handwritten autograph manuscript, but it was published in 2005 by the Croatian Music Information Centre (Muzički informativni centar). It was premiered in Zagreb on December 23, 1923, by Svetislav Stančić (1895-1970). Composed in a single-movement form, it reveals influences from Franz Liszt (1811–1886) Piano Sonata (also in a single movement). In the turbulent era from the late 19th to the early 20th century, it is a profound work that seems to symbolize her solitary compositional life, as she continuously sought new horizons.
