The fifth piece is an etude where octaves, two-note slurs, and leaps are key elements. From the latter half, the basic note value becomes eighth-note triplets. Scriabin initially set the tempo of this piece as Allegro, but disliked it and changed it to "Brioso." However, it is said that he was still not satisfied, feeling that it did not sufficiently convey the character of the piece.
