Composed in Moscow when the composer was 23 years old. It is written in a three-voice texture, comprising a melody consisting of a combination of stepwise motion and disjunct intervals, an inner voice likewise combining stepwise motion and disjunct intervals, and a bass line often doubled in octaves. The bass line is characterized by slurred phrasing that is displaced from the beat.
