Third Movement: Dialogue of the Wind and the Sea

Like the first movement, it is structured in five sections. In the latter half of the Introduction (mm. 1-55) (rehearsal mark 4, m. 31 onwards), the theme used in the first movement's Introduction reappears, emphasizing the interrelationship between the movements. Conversely, the melody in the right hand of Piano I, which appears at the beginning of Section 1 (m. 56 / rehearsal mark 44 - m. 156), becomes the main theme of this movement. Indeed, this theme is repeated three times in Section 2 (mm. 157-210) and recurs at the end of Section 3 (mm. 211-257) (rehearsal mark 60, m. 245). In the subsequent Coda (mm. 258-292), there is no prominent recurrence of the theme, and the music vigorously progresses towards the final climax.
