This piece is recommended to be played softly and dolce, reminiscent of a music box. There are no strong or intense emotions, nor any sense of seriousness.
The left hand is noteworthy in this piece. Observing the left hand, an overwhelming number of measures are filled with sixteenth notes, thus requiring attention to balance issues.
For example, looking at the left hand in measure 5, the first beat is filled with the notes E-flat, A, B, and the second beat with F, A, B. Since the B present in both beats is considered a pedal point, care should be taken not to emphasize this note.
Next, regarding the A that is present in both beats, this A acts as a subtle accent. If, for instance, the first beat were E-flat, G, B and the second beat D, F, B, one might feel something is missing, which is because the A creates a unique effect. Nevertheless, this note (in this case, A) is not meant to be prominent, so it should also be played subtly. Consequently, considering that the bass line progresses with a duet-like element alongside the right hand, the bass should be cherished (played with awareness of the bass).
Furthermore, all sixteenth notes in the left hand should be set to a volume that never interferes with the right hand.
