Andante (At a Walking Pace)

Compound ternary form. The main section is written in four voices, reminiscent of a string quartet. The musical character is like a dreamily swaying lullaby. The middle section sinks into the parallel minor key of A minor, evoking a melody-less accompaniment and a sense of loneliness. The main section's pale, happy color and the middle section's dim atmosphere create a fantastic contrast. In the recapitulation of the main section, natural variations unfold as if gently loosening, and the melody freely transforms, appearing even in the lower voices. Finally, a simple six-measure coda is appended.
