Andante con moto: At a walking pace, with movement
This piece is in ternary form: A + B + A' + Coda. Within this short piece, the modulations are captivating, resembling the natural transition of light colors passing through a prism. After the four-measure antecedent phrase of the A section, the consequent phrase immediately darkens to A minor, while the B section (from the upbeat of m. 9) is in G major. In the recapitulation of the A section, the consequent phrase is expanded, and the coda (from m. 32) enters by overlapping by one beat, creating an interesting phrase crossover structure.
The melody of this piece is strikingly similar to the second movement (E-flat major) of Piano Trio No. 3, Op. 1-3, and the writing also closely resembles the final eight measures. The eighth notes should be played as if by a piano, and the fine triplet figures as if by string instruments (violin in the higher register, cello in the lower register), performing as if engaged in an intimate conversation.
