Learners should first study the musical genre known as "Mazurka." Although it is a Polish dance, it possesses numerous characteristics that need to be understood. It is categorized into several types based on tempo and rhythm. A characteristic feature is the accentuation on the second or third beat; however, listening is paramount, so please listen to Mazurkas performed by several artists, preferably Polish ones. And grasp their characteristics.
This is also a piece where many hints can be gained by closely examining the score. In measures 6-8, there are three sforzandos; however, do not play all three identically, but differentiate them through dynamics. The idea of a gradual decay is also a possible approach. Only in measure 13 (and consequently measures 45 and 53, as it is repeated), the bass note is omitted. Let us consider why this is the case. Try to infer the composer's psychological intent in this section.
In measures 14 and 54, pay attention to the placement of the "forte" marking. As this is also a very improvisatory section, take ample time when leaping from G to B on the second beat. Avoid rushing into it.
