Asian wild horses are a species found from the Middle East to Mongolia. Although they are unfamiliar in Japan and are sometimes conveniently translated as donkeys or mules, they are a species adapted to and inhabiting the aforementioned desolate lands. Consequently, they possess high athletic ability and can run around at a fast pace. In the original composition, this is depicted by a unison played by two pianists an octave apart, much like a "footrace".
