Composed between 1774 and 1776. It consists of three movements.
First Movement
The first movement, in B minor, is in Allegro moderato, 4/4 time. The right hand in the opening two measures features a melody primarily based on the tonic and dominant. Conversely, the second theme is characterized by chromatic melodic motion. In the development section (from m. 29), the first theme is primarily treated, followed by chromatic melodic motion, an element of the second theme, leading to a dominant pedal point and the recapitulation (from m. 48).
Second Movement
The second movement, a Minuet, is in B major, the parallel major of the first movement. It is written in ternary form. After a middle section (from m. 23) in the parallel minor, i.e., B minor, the same key as the first movement, the first section is faithfully recapitulated.
Third Movement
The third movement, a Finale, is in Presto, 2/4 time, and in B minor, the same key as the first movement. It is written in sonata form. In the development section (from m. 71), the first theme is treated first. This is followed by a fermata, leading to the recapitulation (from m. 151). A distinctive feature of this sonata movement is the similarity between the openings of the first and second themes.
