Mazurka in B minor was composed in 1889, concurrently with Mazurka in F major. This work is dedicated to Olga Monighetti, who was the daughter of a close family doctor of Natalia Sekerina, Scriabin's first love and a pianist. Other works dedicated to her include the Fantasy Sonata in G-sharp minor and Album Leaf in A-flat major. Although shorter than the Mazurka in F major, this work is structured in ternary form. It reveals elements that would become the foundation of Scriabin's style, such as unstable movements by minor seconds and octave leaps, already present around this time.

Performance Tips
This piece is written in a different style from the Mazurka in F major, and the accents in measures 2 and 4 bring out its quality. In measure 33, section B, the right hand's octave passage with chromatic phrases expresses instability. While a different left-hand movement enters there, be careful not to let the dotted notes or ornaments get buried, and ensure the rhythm is clearly audible, so that the hands maintain independence.
