This Courante is conceived as a duet, assuming it is performed by two singers with distinct vocal qualities. In the first half, it is considered a duet between the soprano line and the alto line (in this case, primarily the middle voice or the more active voice). The voice serving as a counterpart to the soprano is positioned in the bass clef from measure 7, where an interplay begins. When repeating, it may be effective to highlight a different voice part than in the first iteration.
From measure 21 in the second half, identify the voice part that serves as a counterpart to the soprano – for instance, the bass in measures 21-26, and the tenor from measure 27 – and focus on the duet between that voice and the soprano.
For sequences, focus on the soprano from measure 13, listening for the seconds formed by the notes on the first and second beats: D, C#, E, D, G, F#, B, A#. The same applies to the second half.
The peak point of this Courante might be in measure 16, where the soprano reaches its highest note, B. In contrast, in the second half, no note reaches B, and the ascending sequences do not build as much tension.
