This is a high-tension Courante. Please observe the opening two measures. The left hand is mostly unwritten, with only the right-hand theme (subject) notated.

While this Courante should be played at a fast tempo, characteristic of an Italian-type Courante, it also requires inventive articulation. Instead of playing the theme in the opening two measures entirely legato, try playing it with your own unique articulation, incorporating staccato and other techniques alongside legato.

For example, play the C on the first beat of measure 1 staccato, the FC on the second beat legato, the A-flat F on the third beat staccato, the GC on the first beat of measure 2 legato, and the C-B-A-flat-G between beats 2 and 3 staccato, and so on. Feel free to create your own articulation.

Naturally, once an articulation is decided, apply the same to all subsequent appearances of the theme.
