Fourth Movement
In the first movement, motive a was presented followed by b, but here, motive b reappears prominently, presented in the order of motive b then a. Here, motive b regains its sanity (diminished 4th → perfect 4th), yet it still seems unconvinced, repeatedly posing questions without receiving answers. The nightmare of the diminished seventh chord also continues to appear throughout. In this movement, all elements observed in the sonata recur, leading to a certain catharsis. However, the piece concludes with implications suggesting that "a certain psychiatric patient," consistently depicted throughout this sonata, has not overcome their illness but rather accepted coexistence with it.
