(Third Movement)

D major, 3/4 time, Scherzo

The Scherzo movement begins with a four-octave descent of F-sharp and is characterized by a theme marked by two repetitions of a chord. After these two elements appear fused together, both ascending and descending (from m. 33 onwards), the four-octave descending figure, which was a single note at the beginning, now appears as the D major tonic chord.

In the Trio section, the key modulates to B minor, its relative minor, and a musical idea contrasting with the fragmented theme of the main section emerges. Following the 'Da capo' instruction, the movement returns to the main section and concludes the movement.
