This third movement, marked Tempo di Minuetto, is not overly fast. It is fundamentally optimistic in character, with no serious mood whatsoever. The only part where the atmosphere changes is the section that modulates to E-flat minor, but it quickly returns to the major key. The articulation should be light and nimble, with short staccatos, and played joyfully.
This third movement contains several thematic materials that reappear repeatedly. If the performer grasps these materials and varies the color and dynamics for each, the music will become very clear and enjoyable.
For example:
- The first material spans measures 1-8; this is the theme of this third movement and reappears repeatedly.
- The next section is from measures 9-16.
- After that, it returns to the first material again.
- Measures 25-28 also introduce new material.
Let's analyze the entire third movement by naming each material as Material A, Material B, Material C, and so on.
The only part where the atmosphere changes is the section that modulates to E-flat minor.

The finale of the third movement is in Tempo di Menuetto, 3/4 time, and in the same key of E-flat major as the first movement. Written in rondo form, it contrasts sharply with the elegant second movement, with a lively character pervading the entire movement.
Thus, this piano sonata is, among Haydn's piano sonatas, one of relatively large scale overall.
