The series of notes, beginning quietly like the voices of the dead from the underworld, is marked with an instruction to resonate far into the distance. As sounds overlap, changes in timbre occur, leading one to feel as if guided into a profound world of souls. In the middle section, emotions akin to anger are passionately and overtly expressed, but the piece concludes by seemingly being drawn back into the world of darkness.

The third movement begins slowly with a series of intentionally displaced open guitar strings, as if echoing the open string series played by the left hand in the concluding section of the previous movement. The combination of one quarter note and two eighth notes seen in the melody is reminiscent of the melancholic folk song Triste, but Ginastera further expands this into triplets and quintuplets. The layered sounds in the coda evoke, as if through perspective, the vast expanse of the Pampa and the lingering resonance of a plucked guitar.
