This Sarabande features a considerable number of notes with small note values, such as 32nd notes, making tempo setting crucial. Depending on the tempo, these 32nd notes can sound like a virtuosic etude, create a sense of pressure, or appear mechanical like a finger exercise.
From the author's subjective perspective, a tempo of approximately quarter note = 45 seems appropriate for this Sarabande.
Articulation also significantly influences the interpretation. Again, this is the author's personal opinion, but I believe it is acceptable to play the eighth notes short. In cases where six eighth notes are arranged in one measure in the bass clef (e.g., measure 9), playing the right hand legato and the left hand short allows for a clear two-voice texture.
Of course, playing the left-hand eighth notes legato is also permissible. However, when the tempo proceeds at approximately quarter note = 45, the continuous eighth notes in the bass voice suggest a speed reminiscent of a 'walking bass' style. By playing them short, one can evoke the image of an instrument like a tuba, for instance.
