This work consists of a total of 25 sections, comprising 12 initial sections—each presenting a melodic line tracing 12 semitones and its 11 returns, and alluding to various human psychologies and their manifestations as actions—and their subsequent repetitions (each repeated once, except for the first section which is repeated twice).

This repetition is either continuous developments of individual sections, various variations, or similar yet distinct entities.

During the transition from one section to the next, a repetition of the immediately preceding section is inserted. This gives the work a form akin to the ebb and flow of waves.

Although the performance is limited to the keyboard, in addition to standard playing techniques, techniques such as short sustained sounds produced by a slight depression of the volume pedal, long sustained sounds from the resonance of strings whose keys are silently depressed, and the superimposition of sustained and unsustained notes through the use of the third pedal (sostenuto pedal) are employed.

The sounds are distributed between two pianos, which are placed to the front left and right of the audience. Thus, spatial music with an added stereo dimension is heard. Premiered on January 10, 1998, in Middelburg (Netherlands) by Tomoko Mukaiyama and Hiroaki Ooi.
