This is a highly virtuosic Gigue. To perform it at a reasonably fast tempo, the left-hand trills, in particular, must be executed skillfully, and the quality of these trills significantly impacts the performance. For instance, the left-hand trills in measures 5-6 must be sustained without interruption into the next measure. Since the trills begin simultaneously in both hands, any discrepancy, such as the left-hand trill being slower than the right, or an insufficient number of notes in either hand, will be very noticeable. However, if the tempo is reduced to accommodate these trills, the piece will lose its vitality.
In this regard, the opening nine measures are arguably the most technically demanding. Beyond this point, trills are almost exclusively in the right hand.
The piece contains no particularly serious or sorrowful sections; it is vibrant and possesses optimistic elements. Therefore, one would not wish to lose its vitality by reducing the tempo. Consequently, it is advisable to practice the trills diligently to ensure their fluent execution at all costs.
