It is important to play with rhythmic accuracy. The dotted rhythm evokes a spirited, marching feel. Incidentally, the English title of this piece is "Marionettes." Indeed, the dotted rhythm can be interpreted as mimicking the swaying movements of a marionette pulled by strings. Interpreting it as a "march" might yield a firm, disciplined expression, while interpreting it as "marionettes" might suggest a pendulum-like sway, resulting in a slightly softer tone quality. It can be enjoyable to try both interpretations and appreciate the differences in expression. The first phrase begins in C major, but the second phrase, starting from measure 5, shifts to C minor, changing the mood. The subsequent third phrase is in E-flat major, reaching the highest register in the piece and conveying a sense of exhilaration. It then returns to the original C major. Although the dynamics are marked f throughout, it is important to fully reflect the changes in tonality and register.
