Both hands are notated in the treble clef, suggesting a light character, characteristic of the instrument. The melody of the theme is dominated by chord tones, with non-harmonic tones present only in measure 6 within the eight-measure span. (Note: In measure 6, the note D is used as a passing tone.) In the first three measures, the constituent notes of the tonic chord (I), E→G→C, are boldly arranged as whole notes. Furthermore, the left hand expresses the harmonic texture through an Alberti bass, and, typical of a piece for beginner children, the starting position remains the same until the end. The tonic note is sustained as a pedal point; for instance, in measures 5-6, a dominant chord is developed over the tonic in terms of harmony. Although there are no major harmonic changes, one should perceive and express these subtle variations.
