What is the image of the piece? A "serenade" is a song sung at night, thinking of one's beloved. It might be enjoyable to imagine a subtly sweet love story. At the beginning, it is marked "gently." The two-part melody, played by the right and left hands, moves softly with harmonic changes, but there are also moments where the emotions swell with excitement. It is a piece one would want to play with the gentle image of the spring season. (Reprinted from 2022 Analysis Special Issue Vol. 1)

This piece has strong polyphonic elements. In the opening four measures, the left hand plays a scale against the melody line. However, in this instance, the left hand can be considered an accompaniment figure, so it should be played as softly as possible (pp). In measure 4, the D in the right-hand melody, despite having a crescendo, should not be made excessively loud.
From measures 5 to 8, a melody line appears in the left hand as well. This time, it is not merely an accompanying role; consider it a duet, allowing the left hand to sing expressively and gradually applying a diminuendo towards measure 8.
Thus, differentiate between sections where the left hand plays an accompaniment figure following stepwise motion and sections where it forms a singing part, like a duet.
In measure 18, the G-flat in the left hand is a shocking note. It is permissible to interpret it sentimentally. Emphasize its special nature.

Feel the gentle, breeze-like sway of 6/8 time, at a relaxed tempo (dotted quarter note = 48-52), and with a tender touch. A "Serenade" is a song for one's beloved. Naturally, it is imbued with passionate feelings. The emotions when crescendoing from m. 3 to reach mf at m. 5, or when crescendoing from m. 11 to reach f, should convey strong feelings. While a refreshing April landscape permeates the overall mood, it is also desirable to express the warmth of such human emotions. In sections where the emotions heighten, the left hand's movement also becomes more active. At m. 5, the left hand should actively follow the right hand almost immediately, and the crescendo from m. 11 should be built up together by both hands. The left hand at m. 17 is also important, as it invites the right hand and leads towards the note on the first beat of m. 18.
