The slow Adagio can be played freely and improvisationally. At first glance, it may seem to lack a sense of "direction," but pay attention to the bass line. The bass starts on A for the first two measures, then descends to A-G and G in the third measure, F in the fourth measure, and finally E in the last measure. As the tension is expected to gradually increase, begin the first measure p (piano), gradually increase the volume until the fifth measure, and then enter the following Presto naturally after reaching forte.
Upon entering the Presto, you will be showcasing technical skill, so play as fast as possible. In the 10th measure, reduce the volume to its lowest, then gradually increase it from the 11th measure. A peak is reached in the 15th measure, but from there, slightly decrease the volume. From the 19th measure, apply a crescendo again, increasing the volume as the right and left hands move further apart, and conclude magnificently with the final chord (23rd measure) played at its loudest forte.
