Although Stories of Youth was composed in 1902, this piece is remarkably similar to 'Child Falling Asleep' from Album of Melodies ~A Collection of Short Pieces Written During a Stay in Paris~, composed in 1888. However, the explicit marking of 'Poco lento' at the beginning, and particularly the considerably more refined harmonic progression in the middle section compared to 'Child Falling Asleep', reveal the evolution of Granados's compositional skill. Dynamics and tempo markings are also added in this version, making the piece much easier to comprehend than the rather simple score of 'Child Falling Asleep'. While it is crucial to make the right-hand melody sing, it is equally important for the left hand to express with a strong sense of phrasing.
