This album draws its inspiration from Black spirituals and blues. While the original pieces are all jazz and popular standard numbers, the classical idiom is largely retained here. Consequently, compared to Rocherolle's similar works, it appears somewhat subdued, resulting in a slight reduction in casual accessibility and striking performance effects. It seems this was a period of exploring variety, blending, and balance in compositional styles. The grade level is approximately that of Czerny's 40 Etudes. Dedicated to Sue Craddock Biltz.
