Wagenseil, who served as a court keyboard teacher, dedicated this collection of works to the Princess for the purpose of keyboard instrument education. Similar to Opus 1, it embodies an educational objective, but Opus 2 exhibits greater diversity in terms of difficulty. It is characterized by the varied ornamentation and thematic repetition typical of Vienna during that period. The collection is skillfully crafted to allow performers to naturally grasp the structure of the pieces, making it an elegant and beautiful set of sonatas despite its pedagogical intent.
