This work is the first published of the three pedagogical books he left behind. Although it is stated as "for teachers and students," it does not mean a duet. Instead, it embodies his intention that both teachers and students would improve their keyboard instrument performance through this collection of works.
The Latin place name "Leonty" inscribed in the first edition score has been interpreted as Lentini, a region in Sicily. This has led to a theory that the work was first published there, and furthermore, that his birthplace was also Italy. However, the place of publication and his birthplace are not definitively known. "Leonty" is a Latin term meaning "Leontium" or "Leontia," a place name in East Tyrol.
