The opening theme consists of an antecedent phrase and a consequent phrase, each four measures long. While the simple antecedent phrase (measures 1-4) is presented, in the consequent phrase (measures 5-8), where inner voices are added, care must be taken to maintain the pp atmosphere. After a transitional section (measures 9-12), the opening main melody returns, but in the antecedent phrase (measures 13-16), the texture becomes thicker with the addition of more voices. In contrast, the consequent phrase (measures 17-20) is a recapitulation of measures 5-8.
