In contrast, the second theme is presented in the dominant key of E major, and the left hand's Alberti bass creates a lighter impression. After a short passage from measure 13 and a codetta, the development section begins. In the development section, the key modulates to C major, and an inversion of the third theme, which appeared from measure 20 just before, is introduced. The recapitulation begins at measure 46, and the tonic key returns.
