A major. Sonata form. The right hand plays the melody, while the left hand provides the accompaniment. The first theme, an ascending melodic figure, includes dotted rhythms and is dynamic. In contrast, the second theme is presented in the dominant key of E major, and the left hand's Alberti bass creates a lighter impression. After a short passage from measure 13 and a codetta, the development section begins. In the development section, the key modulates to C major, and an inversion of the third theme, which appeared from measure 20 just before, is introduced. The recapitulation begins at measure 46, and the tonic key returns.
