Performance Notes
Regarding the tempo, a quarter note = 110-120 seems appropriate. The desired atmosphere for this piece is one of beauty and elegance. If the piece proceeds at the aforementioned tempo, the articulation of the left hand becomes a point of consideration.
In the left hand, many measures feature four quarter notes per measure, with a quarter note on each beat. This is a writing style similar to a walking bass. As advice, these four quarter notes can be played:
- Legato
- Non-legato
- Semi-staccato
- Or a combination of these three approaches.
Please choose the articulation according to the performer's preference.
The piece modulates through G minor, B-flat major, and D minor, finally returning to G minor. As it is a short piece, varying the volume and tone quality according to the key can create contrast.
Rather than a dramatic piece, it possesses a "comfortably flowing beauty," so extreme dynamic contrasts may not be necessary.
