In E major, in ternary form.
A [a (measures 1-4) + b (measures 5-10)]
B [c (measures 11-14) + c1 (measures 15-18)]
A1 [b (measures 19-24)]
Coda [measures 25-30]
Section b, starting from measure 19, is presented independently due to the omission of the preceding section a. A coda is appended to maintain balance. Such an omission of a part of the theme in the recapitulation is also observed in the works of other great composers. This can be confirmed in Bach's Sinfonias and Preludes from the Well-Tempered Clavier.
The theme comprises the initial four measures. A pedal point on the tonic continues, creating a tranquil atmosphere. The recurring ascending and descending motif of a dotted eighth note and three sixteenth notes likely depicts the act of rowing a boat.
