In A-flat major, in ternary form.
A [a (measures 1-4) + a1 (measures 5-8)]
B [b (measures 9-12) + b1 (measures 13-16)]
A1 [a2 (measures 17-20) + a1 (measures 21-24)]
Section A features an ascending melody based on arpeggiated figures, which, coupled with the left hand's quarter-note octave-leap accompaniment, conveys a lively and bright character. In the middle section B, the roles of the hands are reversed: the left hand's smooth descending eighth-note motion is accompanied by the right hand's quarter-note chords. As the tempo is Vivace, the rapid eighth-note movements in both hands require precise finger control.
