One of the well-known Russian folk songs. It tells of Vanya (Ivan) drinking alone, calling out to his beloved before pouring and finishing a glass of rum. In the summer of 1869, during a holiday spent with his family in Kamenka (Kamyanka), Tchaikovsky heard this melody from a local craftsman and transcribed it. Its use as the main theme of the second movement, "Andante Cantabile," in his String Quartet No. 1 led to its widespread recognition. Additionally, this folk song is included in Rimsky-Korsakov's Collection of Russian Folk Songs.
