Composed in 1889 when Scriabin was 17 years old, this work was dedicated to the Monighetti family. It was dedicated alongside the Sonata-Fantasy in G-sharp minor (1886) and the Mazurka in B minor, both of which were dedicated to Olga Monighetti. Olga Monighetti's father was a doctor and also served as the school physician at the Military Cadet School. Other works titled Album Leaf include the posthumous Album Leaf in F-sharp major (1900), Op. 45 No. 1, and Op. 58, all of which are short pieces. This work features consistently gentle phrases throughout, yet it incorporates motifs frequently used by Scriabin, such as a polyrhythmic texture involving triplet melodies against eighth notes in the left hand, and sudden dynamic shifts indicated by pppp.

Performance Tips
This is a three-voice work, with the melody in the uppermost voice and the left hand providing the accompaniment. Ensure the left-hand accompaniment is continuous, perhaps by using the pedal. While the left hand is generally not emphasized, try to give a little resonance to notes like the G-flat on the third beat of measure 6, as it foreshadows the modulation to C major from measure 7 onwards. Play it with awareness.
