Composed in Paris in 1955, this collection was written for the American publisher Clayton F. Summy and consists of six short pieces. The difficulty level is comparable to Czerny Op. 30 to the early Op. 40, making them accessible to play. They do not feel child-oriented; rather, they are sophisticated pieces characterized by a high degree of abstraction. They are also suitable for junior high and high school students, as well as adult learners. Each piece possesses a gentle atmosphere, being neither excessively long nor short, and the collection as a whole is concisely and subtly unified. A notable advantage is the ease with which one can experience the sense of accomplishment from playing through the entire volume. The collection concludes with a dignified piece modeled after Bach's Two-Part Inventions.
