Pascal has many piano works suitable for learners. This collection, in particular, is very easy and consists of twelve very short pieces. It bears the subtitle "12 very easy pieces on five notes for piano" (12 petit morceaux très faciles sur cinq notes pour piano). It is dedicated to Emile and Romain Dubuisson. Both hands are in the treble clef, all pieces use only white keys, and there are no accidentals. Both hands are fixed in a single position (C-D-E-F-G), playing simple melodies within five notes in unison, as if singing. It is ideal for casual use from the introductory stage. Each piece has a charming title. The accompanying English titles are not always direct translations of the French, which can, in fact, help expand imagination. It is also possible to devise ways to help students become familiar with the musical ideas, such as creating small "stories" tailored to their aptitude.
