Included in Volume 3 of "Les Contemporains" (Contemporary Composers / 4 volumes in total), a collection for elementary to intermediate learners edited by Lucette Descaves. Descaves was a pianist particularly skilled in contemporary music, and she was also highly regarded as an educator. Many talented individuals emerged from her piano class at the Paris Conservatoire. Such ambitious publishing projects can be attributed to Descaves' extensive network and exceptional teaching ability. Volume 3 features works by composers with roots outside of France, including Tansman, Shostakovich, Khachaturian, Kabalevsky, Rodrigo, Mompou, and Martinu. Daniel-Lesur introduces Tansman's brief biography in the preface. Tansman's work, though a short piece spanning two pages, possesses rich content. In 4/4 time, A minor. It is in a simple ternary form. In the main section (Allegro grazioso), one must reconcile the tempo marking with the melancholic musical character. If it is too slow due to excessive sentimentality, or conversely, too fast due to a sense of urgency, it will not align with the marking. It is necessary to maintain a certain moderation. In the short middle section (Più lento), which shifts to a major key, express the exquisite contrast with the main section, the contrast of light and shadow. The difficulty level is comparable to Czerny's Etudes Op. 299. It offers a satisfying playing experience and is suitable for a wide range of uses, from lessons to recitals.
