2. Education and Mentorship
At the Bucharest Conservatory, he studied music theory with Nicolescu, harmony with Castaldi, composition with Jora, and aesthetics with Cuclin. Subsequently, he also studied with F. Schmidt, Oskar Cahašta, and Marx in Vienna. His curriculum incorporated the study of Romanian folk music and Byzantine chant harmony.
3. Teaching Career
He taught harmony, counterpoint, and composition at the Bucharest Academy of Church Music, and also served as a professor at the Bucharest Military Music High School.
4. Style and Techniques
Constantinescu's research into church music was applied to his compositions, with its results notably evident in his choral works. Generally, his style is characterized by a wide range of materials and techniques, with a particular fondness for variation techniques. He also spared no effort in refining his works.
Constantinescu was also skilled in instrumental usage, including orchestration that imitated the timbres of Romanian folk instruments. Particularly in his music for ballet and orchestral works, he incorporated the rhythms of folk dances and the undulations of musical flow.
His compositional style was inherited as a characteristic of the Romanian National School.
