An Italian composer who primarily worked in Vienna. In 1766, he caught the attention of Gassmann, who was visiting Venice, and subsequently moved to Vienna to study languages, counterpoint, and performance techniques. He met Gluck in his youth, and their mutual understanding continued, leading to a lifelong friendship. Until the late 18th century, he was active as an opera composer, but due to the divergence between the prevailing musical tastes of the time and his own musical aspirations, he began to dedicate himself to music instruction. Among his pupils were Beethoven, Schubert, Czerny, Hummel, Liszt, and Moscheles. This indicates his significant contribution to the development of historically renowned composers.
While his oeuvre primarily consists of operas, he also composed the Piano Concerto in C Major in 1778.
