Born in former Manchuria on September 9, 1935 (Showa 10), and passed away on May 17, 2002 (Heisei 14). After repatriating to Japan post-war, he studied cornet in Kyoto under Kiyotake Yamashita, a pioneer of Japanese wind band music. After entering Tokyo University of the Arts in 1956, he studied composition under Kan'ichi Shimofusa. After graduation, he pursued creative activities primarily focused on wind band compositions, with his representative work being "Passacaglia for Symphonic Band" (1971). He became one of the leading figures in the development of wind band culture in Japan, serving as an advisor to the Japan Academic Society of Wind, Percussion, and Band, a representative of the Japan Band Clinic Committee, and conductor of the Nagoya Directors Band, among other activities. He served as a professor at Gifu University and its Graduate School, and as a professor at Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts, basing his activities in the Chubu region.
